The Price Is Not Right For Me-Ow!

RELIGION AND QUESTIONS

When I opened my eyes this morning, I swore it was Saturday. Then I started thinking … and maybe we follow the bible because it gives us comfort or some sense of belonging? Is it better to believe in nonsense than to know this is it – no heaven or hell to go to because it’s all right here on earth. Is it better to think that someone will save us, then we don’t have to save ourselves and each other?

It makes sense to me for men to follow the bible, especially if they happen to be racist (of any colour), sexist men. But women, non-binaries, LGBTQ+, etc. Well … there may be women out there who want to be property. Property of the Lord Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! Jokes aside. Are religious jokes off limits?

Let’s assume all the church folks know what’s in the bible – really in the bible, and none of them are mentally ill, all are “normal,” then that would mean they are alright with the content – except … they don’t preach what’s in the bible. Do we need so badly to believe in something, even if it is not true?

Oh, by the way. I keep forgetting to ask: Do you know where’s Waldo and Carmen Sandiego?

Sam

To be clear, since I do not know the Quran, Vedas, Mahabharata, Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita and all the other religious texts out there in the ether that I don’t know of, I am only talking about Christian types whose main book is the bible – old or/and new testaments. I wonder if the priest from my old church knows.

QUESTIONS AND RELIGION

I remember at my first niece’s christening, the pastor spewed all kinds of stuff about gays, and I was angry, but knowing what I know now, I shouldn’t have been because he’s talking about what’s in the bible. However, as a Black pastor, I wonder if he knows about the other stuff that would apply to him.

You can’t just pull out parts you agree with and leave the rest out, can you? Is that what we do?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3:16-17 (KJV)

Oh my – This shit’s so confusing! Or maybe “the world” only includes certain people, and everyone else is fucked! If that’s the case, I know I’m not going to heaven – I’m Black, and I got tattoos, AND I’m a woman. Oh well, hello hell for all eternity! I’m cool with that … hell gets a bad name for no reason. BTW: Did you get your free trial invitation yet?

Maybe all these contradictions reflect who we are. I can live with contradictions while I do my best to live a non-contradictory life.

I have visited a few of the Buddhist hells I’m sure (as a state of mind). Hell is different in Buddhism; it’s not eternal and there are lots of hells and I kinda compare it to purgatory just for my own purposes as a memory aid. And that’s all I’m gonna say because I only have a rudimentary understanding and I do not want to offend anyone.

Did I ever tell you about the time I jumped in an Uber and dude was listening to music and I asked, “What song is that! I like it!”

“It’s not a song. He’s reading from the Quran.”

“Wow! That’s beautiful!”

I’m itchy!
