Diminishing Returns

Hunting for Affection
Bed after Bed, I lie with
Lust and Passion
Briefly soothing
My true yearning

I continue the hunt for Him
As the Hunter also Hunted
I am prey; I know
I do not love it
But I allow it
A consequence of
The desire for Affection
For, a Genuine Connection

Bed after Bed, I wake to
Broken promises by sunrise
"God! What was I thinking!"
When I open my eyes

Bed after Bed after Bed
I continue to hunt as
Optimism diminishes
Hope wanes and
I falter, temporarily

Affection
A complicated compilation
Essential to me
