Wisdom From Dad

As you know, Dad’s visiting! If music isn’t playing, it’s the news; alternative mostly and sometimes mainstream. He enjoys independent sources where their narrative is different from the West. I wondered how he doesn’t become despondent, like ever, so I asked …

Remember, past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour. You can dream of a better world for all, but never let that skew your vision of how events will play out and who people really are.

We protect our interests. Might and power dictates who gets what. Don’t look for the good in people; look for the bad because that can harm you. If the person is good, you have nothing to worry about. You cannot change people’s minds; they have to do that themselves.

Never stop questioning. Control your narratiave. You’re only here for a short while. Live in the moment and learn to walk between the raindrops.

He was suprised I’d never heard the term “walk between the raindrops.” I love it! I love how it sounds and I love what it means. I feel a little tiny bit better compared to Tuesday morning – I took a sick day and a day off. I’m happy I don’t have any high priority internal or external projects/clients depending on me right now … Bossman’s probably thinking about firing me – and how I feel right now I’d be relieved. Doesn’t that suck! I imagine him saying …

“Listen bitch. When the shit goes down you can’t be fuckin’ around with no mental health crisis or whatever the fuck is wrong with you. I can’t take any chances with your always-on-the-verge-of-a-breakdown-ass. Pack your shit and get the fuck out.”

Bossman might say one day

What would I have done if I had a client meeting? I’d do my job like I’ve always done, have my meltdown afterwards and pray for the weekend to come ASAP. I can compartmentalize when I must – that’s what’s gotten me successfully through all my work years. “Put that shit away Sam. You got a job to do.” Then I put on my happy face and get on with it – that works for me but you probably shouldn’t try it. I don’t think it’s healthy.

It’s raining in Toronto. Perfect time for me to try this raindrop-dodging thing and afterwards, I’ll look for tangible opportunities to improve the world. That’s a tall order, I should start small.

I need a hug!
