… That’s much less than what I’m worth. An ounce of gold is almost 2k USD and I weigh plenty 🙂 I’d like to be priceless but then I’d be worthless. My glasses are lopsided – whenever I look in the mirror I chuckle. Upon becoming an adult I’m gonna be a dandelion mountain tree … Don’t look at me like that! They exist!
This afternoon Dre and I were on the field doing football drills, jogging and sprinting. We went to the callisthenics park and the regular kids’ park – I climbed stuff and went down the slide a few times but the swing made me feel sick – that’s a first. It’s handball and tag season – Dre slapped me in the back of my neck and I chased him – that’s all the tag we played and the handball needs air. I sat in this little treehouse thing that felt perfect for reading.
The images from Divina Dali make watercolour look amazing but I feel there’s also ink in some of his work. My three favs are splattered throughout.
Saturday morning I woke up thinking about Hindi and wondering if there’s a Romanized version of the language – as how Japanese has Romaji. Why that was in my head, I have know idea! Maybe the cricket guys infiltrated my dream.

Yesterday my sketch needed lots of work – I couldn’t come up with a simple idea all week, I had all these crazy big ones and I was struggling with how to get them onto the stage and I only told the class of one. I had about eight! Anyhow – on my way to class I worked on what I presented which had nothing to do with any of my other ideas. And again I didn’t include rising action! However, I got lots of great feedback from my classmates and our sub.
I will share the before and after with you soon because I didn’t even put it in Writer’s Duet. AND it only took me till the end of class to recognize this but often I will jump in up to my head top because I wanna get shit done – I want to finish drawing so I forget to do the rough sketch. I want to finish my homework so I forget about the escalating beats/rising action. I have lots more of those examples … henceforth, I will make a checklist, which will also include deep breathing and hopefully the next time I jump in head first, I’ll be prepared to receive a concussion.
Seeing things helps me remember them.

AND also, based on feedback, the ideas too big for a sketch would be perfectly suited for a Twilight Zone-type short story. All is not lost, even when I initially think it is. When I think about writing a long short story I usually think about fairy tales, but sci-fi/horror with a spattering of comedy!? Cool! One time I was making hummus for my mom to try and it came out too thick. I was ready to throw all of it in the garbage but Mom talked me down and saved it – I can’t remember what she added but it was delicious and had the right consistency.
Mom!
Samo (sam-oh)
For talking me off the ledge
all those times
even when I didn’t realize it
Thank you!
That’s my nickname from Mom and my sister still calls me that. And my Aunt Sandra and a few of my cousins call me Manta. (I think of manta rays but I don’t know how to swim or maybe I do – First chance, I will jump in the ocean and hope not to drown.) Those names I love to hear. I think Dad’s the only one who calls me Sammy and maybe a guy I used to work with many years ago.
All that jumping makes Sam a dull boy.
On April 8, 1974, the APA stopped classifying homosexuality as a mental disorder. In 1990 US immigration lifted the ban on gays and lesbians. Independent Lens S23 EP1. But how are they supposed to know your sexual orientation? If I’m filling out a form and I already know there’s a ban why would I declare? AND that’s none of your business. But also, why would I want to be in a country that doesn’t want me? (for better opportunities of course).
Is it alright to lie in order to get where you’re going when the odds are stacked and you’re the minority? BTW, I used to spend much more time on PBS when I was younger. I watched a movie about a poet named Ruth Stone.

I might be the only one taking Writing 2 in the summer but that’s alright, I get to meet knew people (I can’t believe I just said that!)
