🎶 I’m in the mood to kill. Simply because you’re near me. Funny but when you’re near me, I’m in the mood for murder. 🎶
That song is dedicated to the homeless people on the TTC.
This week, I learned that creative writing does not translate well into certain types of corporate writing. Oh hum. However, I can be a storyteller and a corporate writer as I (whose name is sam) also learned how to be succinct, use structure to get the point across quickly, stick to the facts and edit like a madman (because women are not crazy).
The ruthless editing is the hardest part because I look at what I’ve written and realize I fell in love with this word baby. It is easy to tell what I need to get rid of but because I am already attached it is hard to remove it.
I edit my poems and short stories but those edits are made with love AND I am writing just for me. At work, I am writing for a particular audience. Corporate edits are homicidal … Bossman’s feedback sounds like …
“The baby’s foot? Don’t need it. Cut off the legs while you’re at it! As a matter of fact, chop off its head we’re only interested in the torso. Actually … rip the torso open, we only want the guts.”
Lesson learned.
I, sam I am, are proud of myself I am sam. (hmmm … maybe I didn’t learn anything after all).
You good? Yes, you are! And if you are not hang in there because you will be! Hang on!
