What!!! That Was There All Along!?!

A Sunday school song for you:

🎶 He’s got the whole world in his hands. He’s got the whole world in his hands. He’s got the wind and the rain in his hands. He’s got the little bitty baby in his hands. He’s got you and me sister in his hands. He’s got everybody in his hands. 🎶

I know the stories, Noah’s Ark, Lot and his wife, David and Goliath, Daniel and the Lion, Adam and Eve … that’s all I remember right now. I’ve always known God was vengeful, but he has all these other character flaws … I’m glad he’s not my father or my boss, or anybody I know for real.

The Better Book

The more I read, the worse I feel – like this deep sense of betrayal; I went to church. Why don’t I know? Did they gloss over it or not talk about it? How is this massive lie still going on?

These are all characteristics I would not want to see in any human being:

Each chapter is dedicated to one of God’s flaws

I feel violated … like someone made me do something gross without my informed consent.

No one said to me, “Sam! God is all these horrible things (as listed in the image above). Would you still like to join our congregation and worship him?

Now I don’t have to wonder why some people have no issue with slavery, are racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. and just plain vile. (I’m not saying it all stems from the book or excusing any such behaviour.) But all those people could say, “I’m just following The Good Book! It’s all in there man!”

At least I don’t feel bitter. The Good Book … lmao. I am going to have fun with all this new knowledge!

Sam

Okay fine! Jesus in the New Testament is supposed to change all that right? WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! “The Father and I are one.” (John 10:30) “the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” (John 10:38). (Source: God: The Most Unpleasant Character In All Fiction – Dan Barker (pg. 289)

BTW: I love how the book is formatted because every quote is referenced, and I can go to the bible and read it for myself. That doesn’t make it any better, but at least it’s clear – no one is lying to me anymore (not that it was/is being done intentionally) and I can no longer lie to myself.

You don’t have to take the author’s word for it – go check for yourself!

Do you have people in your life who are willing to rip off the blinders? Of course, you have to be open to having them removed and I hope you’ll become a better person because of it.

Do you “see the light” (bible reference). And so it begins “in the beginning.” (bible reference again) lol.
