Today I stayed up until 3:00 am to create a post that included an image I found that best describes how I feel – it’s so powerful that I don’t even need to say anything else. Then I added links to other articles in that TIME magazine issue and another old magazine I had. That post all started when André asked me if I have any books on human anatomy. As I was looking, I found an old TIME magazine from 2011, Your Brain: A User’s Guide. As I flipped through the pages, I came upon an article called Race and the Raging Brain and What Makes Us Moral?

The TIME special edition has articles on everything from consciousness, learning and memory to disorders, healing and morality.
After reading Race and the Raging Brain to André, I decided I needed to post it as well. I went looking for an online version of the magazine but, maybe they archived it, and I didn’t want to have to repurchase it. Anyway, I had to:
- Scan both articles
- Send as pdf to Google Drive
- Make the pdf editable via OCR
- Copy the words from the pdf to my post
Scanning the pages to make them readable for the OCR was difficult, I had to be careful with the light and the bend of the pages, so some parts I had to type myself. The entire thing took me about five hours. At first, I was just going to post images of the pages, but that did not look right. I am probably violating all kinds of Copyright rules, but I hope I referenced the magazine correctly. I will go back and check, but I was too tired to look it up last night.
During all of this, André kept bugging me to go outside and play basketball. Sometimes, I bug him – “who plays basketball with their mom?” I couldn’t go out though. I had to put together that post.
What started with a single picture turned into an eleven page post. I went to bed mostly satisfied with the post but generally uneasy. I think will use that image in another post. I am looking forward to my massage tomorrow 🙂
