as a
Sacred
Temporary
Vessel

container
a garment
covering the
True Self

We travel

what were We
before hearing a heartbeat
being born (Starwrought)
receiving skin-to-skin warmth
given a name and familial identity
along with unspoken expectations
swaddled in
Cultural and Historical Baggage

body as Vessel

We travel
through time and form

what are We
after the body dies

Human
before arriving, you did not know me
between arrival and departure
do not tether your knowing to form
instead
sense my Echo
and you will always
recognize me

We travel through
time, dimension and form

We travel

Inspired by a convo with my son, Dre, a few weeks back.

I wrote this poem around 4 am this morning. I’ve been sick since Friday and because the cough is so forceful it makes me throw-up, gives me headaches, hurts my throat, my chest … so my mind wandered and out of all that discomfort this beautiful poem came. (or, you could say I threw this up too but that’s not very poetic of you – hehe).

I hope you love it. Can poems be marriage material? If so, I’d marry all my poems.

And now I just realized that last week’s poem that I scheduled didn’t post. I likely got distracted. So I’ll post it next week.
