On Side

Poetic reflection on societal comparison. “On Side” by Ociola | Planet PU, features the poem in blue script over a soft-focus landscape with green hills and a bright sky. The text explores themes of mimicry, authenticity, and the illusion of greener grass, ending with the lines “Tend to your own / Leave the Jones grass alone.”

While busy striving
To be mimetic

Craving
The Joneses
Greener grasses
You failed to notice

Every blade
— Is synthetic

Tend to your own
Leave the Jones’ grass alone

This is a great way to end Halloween October.

You know I watch a lot of true crime, yes! And if you remember correctly, that sense that you can never truly know someone, even those closest to you, has never left me. Or maybe we do know, and can know, but we choose to ignore those instinctual feelings and see what we want only.

Your Jones may be a bunch of anti-social, psychopatic fucks with children who exhibit callous and unemotional traits; don’t be setting up no play dates. Forget about them because I don’t want to see you on the news talkin’ bout how, “They were so friendly! I can’t believe …”

Do not end up on Dateline.
