Lighthouse Tree

Lighthouse Tree
Lighthouse Tree
At the tip top of the tallest tree
A California Redwood, if you're looking for me
Look way up further, and you'll see
I live in a lighthouse
Just my animal friends and me

Every day, all kinds of birds come to visit
For lunch, they stuff their bellies
With goodies from the tree
Avocados, mangos and pineapples
Pumpkin, millet and sunflower seeds
Cracked corn and peanuts, as well

While eating, we bathe in a kaleidoscope
Of sunlight, wildflowers, honey and resin's glow
We listen to the leaves rustle
And dance with the bunnies too

Before dinner, we play Catch the Cloud and Pickleball
Winnie the Pooh will join in with his kanga friend Roo
They live around the corner from the Baobab tree
Over there, you can get a cup of bubble tea
Drink as much as you like; it's always free

Sometimes, we play Tag in the sky
I don't have feathers or mighty wings
My Condor watchdog flies me
His name is Lee
He loves to bark at everybody

We say goodbye to our friends for the day
Then, wash up before bed
Lee tucks me in tight, turns off the lights
Then barks: "Forest bugs, don't bite tonight!"

A moment of lightness at the top of the tallest tree—before shit gets heavy again.
(My next poem will be part of the Sequence series.)
