Bacon Deprivation and Close Quarters

I am tragically bacon-deprived. This morning, I burned my last slices, and crispy bacon is the worst kind to have. As I mourn my breakfast, I am also coming to terms with the end of my vacation. I need another week, but at least I have Fridays off for the rest of the month. Hooray!

How was your work week? Did you finish all your Christmas shopping?

TTC ADVENTURE

On my way to work last week, the TTC was a hive of activity. I was looking for a seat, but they were all taken; I stood near the door, partially leaning against the plastic wall separating the seats. Then, a fellow commuter boarded and stood beside me, so close it felt like we were a couple.

With a hard stare, I tried to convey my unease, but he was engrossed in his phone. Seriously, can’t you feel my eyes on you?

When that didn’t work, I asked, “Why are you standing so close to me?”

“Pardon?” He says in a Quebecois accent.

“Why are you standing so close to me!?”

“Because I don’t want to hang on the thing.” He points to the yellow handles hanging from the ceiling.

I gestured, indicating the ample space in the car: “There’s plenty of room. You can stand over there or there.”

“The train is packed.”

“It’s not that packed for us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder like we intimate.”

Finally, he shifted just a bit creating enough space for me to breathe. At least he didn’t have overpowering cologne, coffee, or cigarettes on his breath—small mercies.

I got the feeling this is something he does because that spot I was in is the best place to be if you have to stand. Maybe when he did it before, people just moved away.

I have a plan for my blog posts; I just need to execute it. Wish me luck, and have a wonderful weekend. If all goes according to plan I will talk to you via poem on Monday.
