The Longest Day

The Longest Day

School is outside at the water park where daffodils and swirly things rain down on noisy, laughing, squealing kids. Teeth chatter but that doesn’t matter. A few stand over a hill, spying on the army guards. Some look for four-leaf clovers – and once in a while, take breaks to chase dragons and various other passions. They flutter and fly about, having loads of fun while the sun is out.

Sticky from ice cream and popsicles. “Nicky! Vicky! Ricky! Before starting your art, please wash up at the water park!” Parents come – they sit and stay; the children aren’t ready to go away, but the teachers have had enough for today.

I love the energy of those kids… maybe a little less sugar in their snacks would help a bit.

What fun! I love all the rhymes within your haibun. There’s nothing like summer vacation from school when you’re a kid!
