By no means pristine
Although the final draft may seem …
Sometimes I sit to write poetry
Inspired by all that surrounds me
Ready to release my creative baby
Then suddenly
The final draft, defies finality
Should I say “The” or “With”
Maybe “And” might do the trick
Is this the message I want to convey
What does it matter anyway
People will get what they get
I’m happy they read it
I cannot be upset
Should I go with the em dash (—)
Or a hyphen (-)
Ah! An ellipsis ( … ) … perhaps
Now I can’t remember what I wanted to say
What else rhymes with “apothecary”
I’m not sure I still want to use “cherry”
By no means pristine
Although the final draft may seem …
I got up to shower around 7:30 am, but there was no water. AGAIN. I ended up on the balcony, and this poem came with a woosh. Like all things me, I am learning to embrace the indecision, overthinking, and endless tweaking that is part of my creative process, and possibly my whole life. But that may apply to all writers.
I don’t know if it’s helping me to be patient in other areas of life. Here’s hoping.
