I don't often kneel to pray
For some reason
I was compelled
upon waking up today
Thank you for these gifts you gave me
This writing talent—artistry
Thank you for my children—born healthy
I continue to learn so much from them
I am proud of who they are
How their minds work—independent thinkers
I am grateful
for all I have—all that will be
I am grateful
for who I am—how you made me
Thank you

I was compelled
upon waking up today
I wasn’t going to turn this into a poem but after I was done praying, I felt the need to write it.
