Generations from now
How many will it take
To look back on what we've done
Then be proud
To realize how far we've come
An abundance of the best
And way less ...
Racist. Sexist. Queerphobic
Ageist. Ableist. Classist
Xenophobic. Ethnocentric
Ignorant. Change Averse
Greedy. (Neo)Colonialist
Self-serving. Exploitative
Militaristic. Warmongering
Imperialistic. Barbaric
And I could go on with the list
But I'm assuming you get the gist
How many generations will it take
For the whistleblowers to be praised
When we stop using religion
As a reason, excuse or cause for division
When faith allows us to unite
When without blame
We feel collective shame
To ignite a call to action
For transformative, systemic change
For a global shift in our ways ...
But first, we must evolve to resolve
To bring out more of the best
And put the worst to rest
This poem is inspired by a convo I had with Jer last week.

It is good to transcend but you better retain the morals too
Thank you for your comment!
Since morality varies across cultures, upbringing, and perspectives and is frequently rooted in personal or cultural opinions, I avoid the term.
I prefer to discuss ethics because it is less ambiguous, more structured, and systematic and aligns with principles like justice, fairness, and collective well-being.
When I talk about evolving, I mean growing into better humans, individually and collectively, which requires a principled center. If we are better collectively, I assume fair and just systemic changes will follow.
